About GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test which is intended to evaluate candidate’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in the English language that is used to consider as a gateway to graduate management programs such as MBA Program.

GMAT is controlled by the Graduate Admission Council and a registered trademark of it. The GMAT is designed to test candidate skills that are necessarily important to business and management programs.

Test Format

The Graduate Management Test measures candidate on verbal, mathematical, and analytical skills that get evaluated by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The examination is unique to every individual and no two test-takers get the same set of questions. The GMAT test comprises four sections that are Analytical writing, integrated reasoning, Quantitative, and Verbal.

The Analytical Writing section consists of 30 minutes of duration. It is necessary to analyze and reason the given argument and provide information on it. There are certain eligibility standards to apply for GMAT
  • Academic Qualification: A bachelor certified degree from a well-recognized university. Academic qualification standards request varies for all the aspirants who are looking to appear for the GMAT exam.
  • Age Criteria: Students applying for GMAT must be over 18 years. On the off chance that applicant’s age differs between 13-17 years, at this point they should have a guardian proof to appear GMAT.
  • GMAT Attempts: Applicants can appear for GMAT a maximum of five times a year.
  • Reattempting GMAT: Applicants have to wait for a minimum of 16 days to re-attempt the GMAT exam.
Steps to register for GMAT 2021
  • Register on the official website gmac.com
  • Fill in your details
  • Create an ID and password
  • Pay the application fee. Candidates can pay online or offline
  • Log in and book the date and place of the exam
Scheduling a GMAT appointment costs $275 or INR 20,401. You can pay for your GMAT registration with credit or debit card, money order or personal check.
The GMAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete. There are two optional eight minute breaks during the test. The analytical writing assessment is 30 minutes long, and the integrated reasoning section is 30 minutes. The quantitative section takes 62 minutes, and the verbal section takes 65 minutes.
You can take the GMAT up to five times every 12 months. You can’t take the GMAT more than once in a 16-day period, or more than eight times total.
The four sections of the GMAT are scored separately. Your total score, between 200 and 800 are the combination of your verbal and quant scores. You will also receive individual verbal and quantitative scores between 0 and 60. On the integrated reasoning section, you’ll receive a score from 1-8.
The analytical writing assessment is scored by two graders. You will receive a score from 0-6 in half-point increments.
GMAT appointments are generally available six days a week in 110 countries around the world. Local testing centers set their own hours to meet local and regional needs.
You can take the GMAT up to five times a year. A lot of applicants have taken the GMAT three or more times without any impact on their application. Provided your scores increase.
You can have access to an onscreen calculator with basic functions during the integrated reasoning section.
However, you will not have any access to a calculator in the quantitative section.
Yes, you will get a double sided laminated scratch pad during the GMAT. You can also ask the proctor for a new scratch pad at any time during the exam.
You will receive an official score report three weeks after you take the GMAT. The five schools that you choose to send your scores to will receive your scores twenty days after your GMAT appointment.
Yes, you can cancel your GMAT score if you are not satisfied with it. But, it is not always recommended. You can only cancel your score before you see your results. You will not be able to cancel it once you see it. Also, B schools that you might send applications to will also be notified about your previously cancelled score. This might present a bad image upon your MBA application.
Most admission departments consider GMAT scores that are up to five years old, however, most B schools have their own rules regarding a valid GMAT score. It is advised to check up with your preferred school.
You must carry a valid passport with your recent photograph and appointment confirmation letter which you got while registering for the exam.
