‘When you study abroad every step is a learning experience’
A study conducted by Leverage Edu found that 94% of Indian students are eager to study abroad compared to the previous year. As of January 2021, more than 1 million Indian students are studying in 85 countries outside India. This may be a result of better education and immigration policies provided by the governments in the UK and the US
A number of nations like the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Singapore over the years have been receiving a surge of students coming in from India for either higher study or work. People prefer these countries because of their better economic opportunities, flexible admission policies, health care facilities etc. A tough admission criteria in India has also been a major reason for driving away students to foreign universities. Several countries have come up with several pro-student policies which enable students to pursue their education in various International institutes.
The extremely rigid admission procedures in several top rated institutes also drive Indian students to study abroad. In spite of doing exceptionally well in their exams, students often fail to meet the unrealistic admission criteria of various universities in India. India has a dearth of high rated institutes. Every year lakhs of candidates apply in these limited institutes. This forces the authorities to raise the cut off marks to filter out the best of the students. This cut throat competition drives away a lot of Indian students to foreign universities. Even the brightest of students might not make it to the list owing to minor hitches in the competitive exams.
This admission criterion bars them from taking up a subject or course of their choice. However, with the same remarkable score the student can easily pursue his preferred course at various institutes across many countries like the U.K., Canada, Singapore and the U.S. Institutes abroad follow basic criteria of evaluating students not only on the basis of their academic merit but on interviews and other extracurricular activities as well.
Studying abroad may expose students to a wide spectrum of programs offered by the universities. There are only a handful of courses in the Indian study system. A few institutes might offer a program which might only be up to the diploma level. The lack of a number of programs in various Indian institutes also forces a large section of the student population to move abroad. A number of reputed institutions abroad offer a degree course in ‘Hair and Makeup study’. In India this program might not even find a place in the Indian curriculum.
Staying in a foreign country will expose you to a diversity of cultures from around the world. The university you choose for your study will also have a community of other students from across the globe. This gives you a chance to build connections and invaluable relationships with them. Some connections can even lead to career opportunities, job offers and business partners. If you have a broad network you are more likely to be connected to exciting career and social opportunities.
Studying abroad will help you to have a better understanding of how organizations operate internationally. While looking out for employment opportunities you will be demonstrated to your employers as a culturally experienced candidate with expertise in adaptability, skill development, learning experience and intelligence.
International education can enhance the quality of your learning, providing a wider spectrum of opinions and expertise. It will open up more opportunities for you in your own country and the rest of the world. This will boost your self confidence and bring self development in you. It will catapult you to a world of unlimited employment opportunities with desirable returns.
To ensure a student’s dream does not remain unfulfilled due to financial constraints, a number of scholarships are made available to them. Countries like the US, the UK and Canada, Singapore and Ireland are major education hotspots that attract student communities from around the world. The continued growth in international students coming to these nations has a significant positive impact on their economy to a great extent. Scholarships empower a student’s academic and career goals by removing financial barriers. It also paves the way for a direct economic boost in the country’s economy.
There are certain eligibility criteria which need to be fulfilled in order to reap the benefits of a scholarship. A number of countries provide several scholarships to help students in continuing with their studies.
